The Rotaract Club of Gombak held its 6^th Installation of the President and Board of Directors for the Rotary Y ear 2008-2009 at COCA Restaurant, Subang Parade on a Saturday evening, 16 August 2008. This event was carried out successfully under the continuous support from our sponsoring club, Rotary Club of Gombak, various Rotaract Clubs from District 3300, members and organizing committee of RAC Gombak. Working to Make Dreams Real

We are close to the end of “Membership and Extensions Month”, and I am happy to report that our Membership Chair Aimee Liew has been doing a fine job. A Club is only as strong as its members, and I am keen to ensure that we have strong and solid growth this year. We will be having a speaker from the District soon to speak on this topic. Meeting of 21 August 2008 – A feast for the eyes

A visual feast was presented to the Club by our speaker, the famous fashion and celebrity photographer Jen Siow of Jen Studio. A specialist in digital photography and 360-degree virtual worlds, members truly enjoyed the presentation. Read more

Extending friendships in Rotary

It has been another fruitful week for the Rotary Club of Gombak. Last week, we had a successful Joint Meeting with the Rotary Club of Damansara at the Royal Selangor Club. It was a nice change from the usual, and I would like to thank President Usha Rajasingam for initiating the meeting and also for all her assistance in helping to “Make Dreams Real”. Members who attended the meeting appeared to enjoy the change of scene. We also learnt how other Clubs run their meetings, and it was a good experience for everyone concerned.

On Saturday 16 August 2008, I was the Guest of Honour for the Installation of the Rotaract Club of Gombak. [Full report soon]. Congratulations to President William Kim and his new Board for a nice event, which was well attended by the Rotaractors. Congratulations also to Immediate Past President Amanda Lum and her Board for their work in the past year. Organising Chair Jacqueline Mak also did a great job. Rotarians who joined me that evening were Treasurer Douglas Brown, New Generations Chair PP Veiven Goon, Rotaract Advisor PE Jeff Ho, IPP Ridzuan Yang, Interact Advisor PP Chandran Nair, and PP Yeo Soon Teck. Everyone had plenty of food and the casual theme suited the event very well.

August is still Membership and Extension Month. Membership Chair Aimee Liew has proposed a few things which we will soon be implementing to support our membership programme, so stay tuned for more of this in the near future. In the meantime, do think about bringing a friend to our meetings. There is much to be gained in sharing Rotary.

The Installation of the Rotary Club of Makati South is fast approaching. As you are all well aware, RCMS sent a large delegation to our recent Installation. It would be great to return the visit. I am pleased to confirm that I will be attending the function in Manila, and I hope as many Gombakians can come and join us for what should be a very enjoyable trip.

Ramandan is also fast approaching and a very meaningful service project for our Club the last few years, has been the visit to the children’s cancer ward of Universiti Hospital, where we try to bring some joy and cheer to the children. We will be doing the same again this year. Dates and details will be announced soon, so stay tuned for this touching and meaningful event.

Joint Meeting of 14 August 2008 – What to look for when buying Diamonds

We had a successful Joint Meeting with the Rotary Club of Damansara at the Royal Selangor Club on 14 August 2008. The meeting included a presentation to District Rotaract Representative Elect/Immediate Past President Amanda Lum of the Rotaract Club of Gombak. The speaker, PK Teh from Jewelex Marketing spoke on appreciating diamonds and what to look for when buying the precious stones. RC Damansara is in Group 6 together with RC Gombak, and is also the Club of our Assistant Governor, S Kulasegaran. Read more

The Star: New President for Gombak Rotary Club

The Star newspaper, Malaysia’s largest circulating English daily, published an article about the recent Installation of the Rotary Club of Gombak. The article mentions the launch of mozziesafe, the presentation to the three charities - Persatuan Dyslexia, PS The Children and Yayasan Salaam, and Gombak’s sister Clubs, the Rotary Club of Tanglin, Singapore; Rotary Club of Makati South, the Philippines; and Rotary Club of Taipei Southwest, Taiwan. Meeting of 7 August 2008 – Magical ads that rise from the floor

Our speaker, Mr VK Sailendra spoke about his success story of having an idea, working hard on it, and turning it into reality. His company is a leading provider of 3-D ads for hypermarkets. Immediate Past President Graham Bennett from the Rotary Club of Bukit Kiara Sunrise spoke to members about the upcoming District TRF Seminar. Read more

District 3300 - The Rotary Foundation Seminar 2008

The Rotary Foundation (TRF) is responsible for many important educational and humanitarian programmes of Rotary International, and provides grants and funding for many Rotary Club projects around the world. It is the Foundation of all Rotarians. RI District 3300 will be holding its TRF Seminar on Sunday, 7 September 2008. Details as follows:
