Bringing joy to children cancer patients

Club visit to RC Makati South, Manila, Philippines

The Rotary Club of Gombak sent a delegation to attend the Installation of President Pocholo and his Board of the Rotary Club of Makati South, our Sister Club. The trip took place on 6-9 September 2008. The Gombak nine-strong delegation was led by President Peter Pek. He was joined by Past President Lall Singh; Past President Vincent Ng and his Ann Patricia and daughter Jessica; Service Chair Shanti Clement; Membership Chair Aimee Liew; International Chair KL Chin; and Vocational Chair Lee Jia Ping.  Read more

Mohamed Hanifah Salih spoke to us about Lip Trainer Patakara, a training device that can help improve certain medical conditions. Speaking from personal experience with his daughter, he shared with us how the device helped his child improve her medical condition. Read more

Meeting of 28 August 2008 – Refugees in Malaysia

Our speaker, Mr Amer Hamzah Arshad, a legal expert in the area of refugees, spoke to the club on the plight of refugees in Malaysia. Legitimate refugees are often unfairly perceived as economic migrants, when they are in fact in a situation where their lives are at stake. He argued that we have a responsibility to protect these refugees, as ensure that their basic rights as human beings are defended. Read more

A time for reflection, patience, sacrifice and humility

It is that time of year when our Muslim friends fast for a month. Fasting is meant to teach a person patience, sacrifice and humility. For the last two years, the Rotary Club of Gombak has had a project to cheer up children cancer patients at Universiti Hospital, as we join them for a buka puasa, or the breaking of fast. This year, we will do doing the same. Read more
