July 2, 2008

RI Convention Los AngelesThe Rotary Club of Gombak was well represented at the recent Rotary International Convention in Los Angeles, USA, which saw 17,000 Rotarians from around the world gather for the annual event. Gombak was represented by a club record of six delegates: DGN Leslie Salehuddin and Ann Ziela; President Ridzuan, Past Presidents Sen Gupta and James Emarievbe; and Club Bulletin Editor Douglas Brown. The Gombak delegation was the largest in District 3300, which was represented by 14 Rotarians and spouses in total.

According to President Ridzuan in an email report to the Club, schedules were tight and everyone seemed to be extremely busy with the activities offered at the Convention. On a personal level, he had the chance to visit Hollywood and Disneyland on his own.

As part of the organised activities, President Ridz attended a hospitality visit and dinner hosted by theRI Convention Los Angeles Rotary Club of Irvine Spectrum together with 30 other delegates from other parts of the world. The event took place about an hour towards San Diego. He addressed a crowd of about 80 people that evening together with their club members, saying something about our club. He also had the chance to go to the Hollywood Bowl together with Leslie, Ziela and Sen that was attended by around 7,000 Rotarians from around the world.

The 100th Rotary International Convention will take place in Birmingham, England from 21-24 June 2009.
