Report of the regular meeting held on Thursday 3 July 2008.
The first meeting for the Rotary Year 2008-2009 was opened by Immediate Past President Ridzuan Yang, who then placed the President’s jewel on President Peter Pek, who took over the proceedings. Sergeant-At-Arms Dr Kieran McClanahan began the meeting promptly at 1pm and the meeting ended at exactly 2pm.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Past President Vincent Ng reported that in addition to himself, various members of the Club attended the wake or funeral of Rotarian Hoh Kiang Theng’s Ann, Lai Yee Min. Those who attended include Past Presidents Poh Sin Bin, Yeo Soon Teck, Veiven Goon and Rotarian Lawrence Foong. He thanked all those who contributed to the pak kam collection. Members then observed a minute of silence as a sign of respect.
- Vincent also reported that to-date, the following numbers have been confirmed from our Sister Clubs to attend our upcoming Installation: seven from RC Tanglin, Singapore, and 12 from RC Makati South, Manila. He urged members to assist him especially in terms of transportation during their time here.
- President Elect Jeff Ho reminded members that the Installation is just a month away. He asked members who wanted to purchase tickets or help in providing advertisements to do this as soon as possible.
- Past President Veiven Goon reminded members that Interactors from SMK Selayang Bahru will be having their International Understanding Day/Installation on Saturday 5 July 2008.
- Installation Organising Chair, Vice President Joyce Lim, reminded members of the committee that there would be a meeting immediately after the Club meeting.

Inaugural address to the Club as President
President Peter briefed the club on the Board’s plans for 2008-2009, and also on the mozziesafe project which will be launched at the Installation dinner. The project is in line with Rotary International’s theme for 2008-2009, “Make Dreams Real”, and RI President Dong Kurn Lee’s call for all clubs to initiate a project to address the issue of child mortality.

PRESIDENT’S ADDRESS
- President Peter Pek reported that he had received news that PDG Dato Seri Yang Rashdi Maasom had passed away early in the morning and called for members to stand and observe a minute of silence as a mark of respect.
- The Club held a successful Interact Leadership Training Seminar (ILTS) for Interactors on Saturday 28 June 2008. President thanked the Organising Chair Past President Wan Mokhtar and Co-chair Past President Veiven Goon, as well as all the other Rotarians for a job well done. Full report
- He encouraged members who are interested in service to New Generations to attend the coming International Day organised by SMK Selayang Bahru on Saturday at Hotel Malaya.
- President Peter reminded members that the CLub will be sending all reports, notices and announcements electronically in order to be more environmentally friendly and to increase the efficiently of communication to members. He urged members who had not taken action to confirm their email subscription of the club’s email subscription service to do so as soon as possible so as not to miss out on any important communication.
- District Governor Elect Leslie Salehuddin, Past President Vincent Ng (then Assistant Governor), Immediate Past President Ridzuan Yang (then President) and President Peter (then District Secretary for IT) attended the District Awards Night held on Saturday 28 June 2008. The Club won several awards including the Presidential Citation and the Community Service Award for Group 8 for the Kajang Juvenile Detention Centre project. Vincent received an appreciation award for his services as Assistant Governor and District Secretary for District Events; and President Peter received an appreciation award for four years of service to the District as District Secretary for IT and District webmaster.
