Opportunity to Travel, Semi-Annual Return, IU Day and Rotary on Radio
July 23, 2008
It has been another busy week for many of us in the Club, with our 39th Installation just round the corner. With close to 30 visiting Rotarians and their spouses from four countries now confirmed to attend, we have much more to do and organise, and I am confident that Gombakians will help out and take active part in our programme for our visitors.
With such a large delegation from our Sister Club from Singapore, I urge members who can, to attend the Installation of the Rotary Club of Tanglin, Singapore, which will take place on Saturday 2 August 2008. It is a fantastic opportunity for members to reacquaint with old friends and also to make new ones. If you have never attended Tanglin’s Installation, I can assure you that the trip south is worth the effort. If you are interested, contact Past President Vincent Ng, who is coordinating the visit.
It is also that time of the year when Rotary Clubs around the world send in their Semi-Annual Returns (SAR) to Rotary International. The Board has decided not to return any member who is in arrears on or after 25 July 2008, and the Secretary sent out a Notice to members at the end of June in this regard. As such, please ensure that your account is in order before the deadline.
The Interact Club of SMK Seri Ampang (Ampang Road Boys School) will be having their International Understanding (IU) Day on Saturday 26 July 2008. The Interactors always put in a lot of effort into their IU Days, and I urge members who can attend, to join me on the day.
As I have my own radio show, I was interested to read that you can listen to some radio programmes about Rotary. Set the dial to the year 1955 and the Rotary Golden Theater Radio Show, a series of radio dramas that Rotary produced for its 50th anniversary. The Rotary Global History Fellowship worked with RI’s History and Archives staff to help Rotarians rediscover these episodes from the golden age of radio, and members of the Old Time Radio Researchers Group digitized the original audiotapes. You can find out more and download the shows from here.
